Is Your AC Busted? Keep These AC Repair Tips Handy

If you live in a part of the country that swelters during the summer months, you are going to need your air conditioning. And if that AC breaks, you are going to want to get it fixed right away. Here is some great advice about how to handle the ac repair as quickly as possible.

Check Your Breakers

If your AC is tripping breakers, there could be something wrong with the compressor or another component of your system. If your unit was working fine but now isn't, it might just be that a breaker tripped because of a surge in power consumption or something else that isn't related to your air conditioner at all.

Look for Freezes

If your home's temperature is extremely high or low, it could be a sign that something is wrong with your system. Freezing, in particular, should be investigated right away because it can cause damage to the equipment and increase your energy bills.

You may also notice that warmer air comes out of the vents or smell like burning rubber when coils are frozen. If this happens, shut off your unit immediately and have a professional come out to fix the problem before further damage occurs.

Clear the Area

Before you call an HVAC technician, make sure that there isn't something blocking the airflow through your HVAC system. If you see leaves or other debris in front of the vents or within the system itself, remove them before they cause even more damage to your HVAC system.

Clean the Filter

A clean air filter will keep your air conditioner running smoothly. When it is dirty, it can cause damage to the system. If you don't clean your filter, it will get clogged with dust and debris. A repair technician can do this for you when they are doing other repairs to your AC.

Call an AC Repair Technician

If you notice any strange noises coming from your AC unit or if there's no cool air coming out at all, call an air conditioning technician right away. Don't try to diagnose the problem yourself — it could be dangerous, especially if there's a leak in your system.

An air conditioner is a great thing to have in your home, so you want to make sure it is always working. Contact an AC repair service to make sure yours is working during this sweltering summer heat.
